A significant tear in BC Place’s air-supported roof led to the dome’s deflation and one of the most complex repair operations ever undertaken on a structure of its kind. Within 24 hours, crews mobilized and began an intensive, large-scale response that required specialized high-angle rigging, rescue systems, and thousands of feet of technical rope to access and stabilize the inverted roof.
Working in severe winter conditions, teams coordinated the drainage, structural repairs, and reinflation process under demanding timelines. Despite the scale and risk of the operation, the project was completed without injury, restoring the stadium to operation and marking a defining moment in large-venue technical rigging and rescue coordination.
